Paraguay were difficult opponents: Uruguay coach

La Serena (Chile), June 21 (IANS): Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has admitted that Paraguay caused his team problems in their Copa America Group B encounter, but was pleased to see his side progress following the 1-1 draw.

Jose Maria Gimenez gifted Uruguay the lead around the half-hour mark, but Lucas Barrios restored parity shortly before the half-time whistle on Saturday.

"It was a difficult game, just like we expected," Tabarez said at a press conference.

"It was a tough battle for possession with a lot of aerial play. We got some good chances toward the end of the first half. We have to stay a bit calmer in certain situations. We did well and get the chance to keep going in this tournament. It was a pretty even match, though. We wanted more from this game, but it did not happen."

Tabarez then went on to discuss his side's quarter-final against Chile and admitted Uruguay face a tough task.

"Chile have played some of the best football here at the Copa America. They have been playing at a very high level. Like all the teams still in there, they have a shot at winning the title.

We will following the same path we're on. There is no magic formula. We have had some bad moments and some good ones."

Uruguay meet Chile on June 24 in Santiago.
