BSF nabs four arms, gold smugglers in Bengal


Kolkata, June 21 (IANS): The Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday apprehended three Indian nationals for trying to smuggle weapons across the Bangladesh border into West Bengal's Malda district.

In another operation, the troopers nabbed a smuggler and seized gold worth over Rs.84 lakh from near the international border in North 24-Parganas district.

In the first operation, BSF troopers of the 31st Battalion nabbed Saiful Mondal, 40, Bhudeb Roy, 23, and Nirmal Sarkar, 19, in area under Taltoli border outpost's control in the district.

"Besides two foreign-made pistols, we have seized 10 Indian SIM cards and a motorcycle from the trio. They have been handed over to police for further action," said a BSF officer.

In the second operation in the Gunarmath border outpost, troopers of the 40th Battalion apprehended Ratan Biswas, 29, and seized 29 gold biscuits worth over Rs.84 lakh.

The BSF has seized gold worth over Rs.5.5 crore and apprehended 13 smugglers from across the south Bengal frontier so far in 2015.
