Arab League reaffirms support to Qatar on 2022 World Cup

Cairo, Jun 22 (IANS): Cairo-based Arab League (AL) denounced on Sunday what it described as the "prejudiced campaign" against Qatar to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The AL reaffirmed in a statement "its support for Qatar's hosting of such an important sports event as the first Arab state...", reported Xinhua.

Qatar is currently facing risks of being stripped of hosting the 2022 World Cup as a former FIFA executive admitted an illegal vote-swapping deal in favor of the Gulf country, yet the FIFA investigation did not find "conclusive evidence" for the claims.

The country has also been facing criticism over alleged inhumane conditions provided for labourers working in the constructions and developments of the country's stadiums in preparation for the tournament.
