M S Dhoni offers to quit captaincy following ODI series loss to Bangladesh

Mirpur, Jun 22 (PTI): Under-fire India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in a sarcastic tone said that if his removal from captaincy can help Indian cricket move in right direction then he is game for it.

"I am always the one who is responsible for anything bad that happens in Indian cricket. Everything that happens is because of me. Even the Bangladesh media is smiling," Dhoni gave a tongue-in-cheek reply to a question at the post-match press conference after India suffered the ignominy of their first ever series defeat against Bangladesh.

When the question was asked differently about how long he would continue as captain, he made it clear that he would continue but not before taking a dig at the scribe.

"I am really enjoying my cricket. But when the earlier question was asked, I knew this question one was coming. These questions always keep popping. The media loves me. If it is justifiable if you remove me and the Indian cricket will start doing well, and if I am the reason for all the bad that's happening to Indian cricket, definitely I would love to step away and play as a player.

"It doesn't really matter, who is the captain because I was never really in line to become the captain. It was a job or responsibility for me. They want to take it away from me, I am fine," he said.

No doubt that our performance in Bangladesh is dismal and if Dhoni cannot muster the talents of the Indian Cricket Team, better he step down and delegate captaincy to other.

The golden rule 'Perform or perish' applies as much to cricket as it does to corporate world. Dhoni, unlike some of his predecessors is man enough to offer to step down.

Dhoni has indeed been one of the best Captain in all the 3 formats. Of course in Tests none can match The great Nawab of Pataudi Jr who would bring the best out of players. It is he who taught us to field well and gave us the fighting spirit to win or to lose with heads held high. Yes we have had many other greats like Saurabh Ganguly, Anil Kumble and others like Kapil Dev who gave us the taste of the Ist world cup victory. But one should know that a captain is as good as his team. If a analysis is made of the Indian team in the last 5 years or so , seniors have been systematically chopped for just a single failure .
Proven consistent failures like Ravindra Jadeja & Mohit Sharma have been given more chances than they deserve. Players from the top Ranji Teams have been contiuously ignored for the past 3 seasons. Truly it is Club over country rule that prevails. Players like Robin Uttappa, Vinay Kumar , the tens of Sanju Samsons and several others are just withering away. Dhoni will be remembered not for the Cups that he won, but for the several promising careers of young cricketers that he ignored due to his selfish reasons of preferring CSK players . Of course opinions of the public do not matter to MSD as he is in his own deep slumber of his own making. But yes he has been a outstanding Captain and there is no denying that. It's time for the ors to be bold like the Aussies who have sacked very great players who have been in top form or have shown the door to the best of Captains. Indian ion is the wrong hands and it's time for many like N. Srinivasan, Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar et all to hand over the reigns to the the likes of Rahul Dravid, Saurabh Ganguly, VVS Laksman , Sachin Tendulkar,Mohinder Amarnath , Kapil Dev , Bishen Singh Bedi et all and ressurect Indian Cricket

I really don't know why after continuous failure Dhoni keeps jadeja in playing XI.

    Dear All,

Don't be so happy for M.S.Dhoni, because he is the only successful captain of India and all the indian cricket lovers should be sad for him.. It is him because of whom we reached No.1 Spot, in One day Internantional or Test, even T20's too. Also there are few of you I had seen just blabbering and disagreeing and neglecting his talents. He is was and always will be the coolest captain of India forever. Unfortunately he is on bad phase recently. Remember how he has made us won, the losing, matches umpteen number of times. He is always a good captain and a cool player for me and who ever agrees for this too.

Wishing that BCCI think well before taking any harsh step against our loving sweet player Dhoni The Captain Cool. Wishing him Good Luck and Bright Future for another 5 to 6 years. ..........SHAIKH

    Indian Public are like this!!
If everything goes well most of the time, they keep praising (sky-high) and just a slip to team like B\Desh they become vultures\hyenas...
May be there is a political angle to this defeat just after PM's visit\return. Promise like B'desh will qualify for ICC WC.
Our Captain may have been advised what to do.
See how India will hammer B'Desh in the 3rd one dayer.
But do not take away B'Desh players commitment. They really bowled well and fielded extremely well (field placements were superb. They went all out to win and in the end both helped them to win the series and the purpose.
We have to have good neighbours when we have problems on this side of the border too....
Hence in my thinking some politics also involved in this series.

Bangladesh was definitely superior team to Indian team. Their fielding was better than our team. Besides their new bowler created history in ODI cricket by taking 11 wickets in two matches. Some of our players, instead of playing sporting cricket were spending time with the opposition players with unnecessary arguments. Though we love to see India win every match, in reality, we do lose matches and we need to accept that fact gracefully. Anyway, best wishes to India for the 3rd ODI.

Our India team members are roaring lions in our own back yards. In flat pitches they tear apart any bowling in teh world .Give them some good bouncy wickets, they fold up like a pack of cards. Who says they are playing for the country, they play for money, fame, glamour girls. Perhaps 2 years down the line Afganisthan may also beat us.

Dhoni is Good Captain No doubt on it. I really feel sad for Sehwag , Gambhir , Yuvi, Bhajji how they have been treated by the ors including Dhoni. Main Pillars helped India to clinch the much desired trophy in Cricket World cup 2011. Always Experience matters. Anyone can get credit and become a millionaire, not because of his own efforts it might be the collective efforts by all. I really like the dashing Batsman of Indian Cricket Mr. Sehwag. He would have given a Best Farewell by considering his contribution in winning most of the matches for India.

Please quit from Cricket as soon as possible..We have talented young wicket keepers who are warming the bench for a long long time.Virat Kohli can replace you as a good Captain..No doubt. Think about young cricketers future too..You played enough cricket and made huge money..Now you are the 3rd Richest sports person in this world..Sanju Samson,Wridhaman Shah,Naman Ohja are simply wasting their time..Do you know that Naman Ohja hit 2 fantastic centuries in Australian soil as a Inda A player but could not play any single match so far..Sanju is more matured wicket keeper and batsman..Anyway, Thank you very much for your great service to Indian cricket..You gave 2 World cups..We will remember that always..Before leaving cricket, please take your hand bag Ravindra Jadeja with you..PLEASE DON'T FORGET..
