Indian parliamentary delegation visits Brussels


Brussels, June 22 (IANS): A 15-member Indian parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, is on an official visit to Brussels from June 22 to 26 on an invitation of President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.

The schedule of the delegation, which comprises members of parliament from both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, is packed with several important meetings, according to the Indian embassy here.

On Tuesday, Mahajan is scheduled to meet Schulz, who will host a lunch in her honour at the European Parliament.

On Wednesday, the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with India will hold a special meeting with the Indian parliamentarians. Geoffrey Van Orden, chair of the delegation, will host a lunch on this occasion.

Elmar Brok, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, will also meet the Indian delegation on Wednesday.

President of the Belgian House of Representatives, Siegfried Bracke, will receive the Indian parliamentarians at the Belgian parliament on June 25. They will also will also meet President of the Belgian Senate Christine Defraigne.
