Beltangady, May 3: A state-level seminar on ‘Museums of Karnataka’ organized jointly by museum department of Hampi Kannada University and Manjusha museum of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala was inaugurated at Dharmasthala here on Wednesday May 2.
Speaking on the occasion, Hampi Kannada University vice-chancellor Prof B A Vivek Rai called for establishment of museums with specific themes, as in other countries. The themes could be such as agriculture, fisheries, etc, and attempt should be made by public and private institutions to set up museums at local levels, he said.
The seminar was inaugurated by Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed concern over the neglect shown towards museums.
A book titled ‘Dakshina Kannada Jilleya Itihasa Mattu Puratatva’ edited by Antiques and Museums director Dr R Gopal was released on the occasion.
Among those present were Hampi Kannada University museum department director Dr K M Suresh, veteran scholar Prof Gow Ma Umapati Shastry and seminar convener Dr Tarihalli Hanumanthappa.
