Udupi, May 3: Kasturba Medical College will host the 25th Karnataka Association of Physicians of India Annual Conference (KAPICON) from Friday May 4 to Sunday May 6.

Minister for medical education Dr V S Acharya will be the chief guest at the inaugural function, which will be held at Syndicate Bank Golden Jubilee Hall at 6 pm on Friday May 4.

This will be followed by a cultural program by Vibha Nayak, Dr R N Bhat and Hamsadwani Group, stated KMC chief operating officer and medical superintendent Dr D P Saraswat in a press release.

The guest speakers will be Dr Somraju from Hyderabad, senior rheumatologist Dr V R Joshi from Mumbai, senior hepatologist Dr Nagaraja Rao from Hyderabad, Dr Ashok Kirpalani and Dr Dilip R Karnad from Mumbai and others like Dr Narayanan Unni and Dr Unnikrishanan from Kochi, Dr Chenniappan from Trichy, Dr Uday Muthane, Dr Ganapathi from Bangalore, Dr Jayaraj from Mysore and Dr Sudha Sinha from Hyderabad.  

The local faculty drawn from all over the state will debate and discuss recent advances in the management of heart diseases, cancer and high blood pressures. They will also hold debates on infectious diseases like malaria and chikungunya.

Practicing physicians, teachers and about 600 delegates from various southern states of India and Goa including postgraduates are expected to participate in the conference.

The chairman of scientific committee is Dr Balasubraminiam, while professor and head of the department of medicine Dr N R Rau is the chairman of the organising committee. Professor of the department of medicine Raviraj Acharya is the secretary of the organising committee, the release stated.
