Kolkata, June 27 (IANS): A research scholar at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, was allegedly molested by a contractual sweeper while she was asleep in the institute's hostel, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Thursday night.
The suspect was arrested and produced before a court on Friday, said West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Bharati Ghosh. The accused was granted bail.
According to the complaint, the man entered the research scholar's room while she was sleeping and tried to kiss her.
"She woke up and raised an alarm. People in the institute managed to nab the man as he was about to escape," Ghosh said.
The woman's statement will be recorded before the magistrate on Monday, police said.
