Five killed, 51 injured in Afghan suicide attack


Kabul, June 30 (IANS): At least five people were killed and 51 injured in a suicide attack in Afghanistan's Helmand province on Tuesday, an official here said.

The attack took place near a police station in Lashkar Gah, the capital of the southern Afghan province, when a car bomb was detonated, Xinhua news agency reported.

The victims comprised three attackers and two civilians.

"One woman was among the victims. The injured were shifted to a hospital in the city and among the wounded were two police personnel. The death toll may rise as several of the injured were in critical condition," an official said.

Two armed militants, wearing police uniforms, tried to enter the building and were shot dead by security forces, he added.
