Chain snatcher arrested in Delhi


New Delhi, July 2 (IANS): A man wanted in 40 cases of snatching gold chains and committing other crimes has been arrested here, police said on Thursday.

Sandeep alias Kalia, 28, who was also wanted in cases of robbery, violations of the Arms Act, and bootlegging was arrested here on June 30, a police statement said.

On a tip-off, Sandeep, a resident of Mangolpuri in Delhi, was intercepted and overpowered by a police team at Haiderpur area of the city.

Two stolen gold chains were recovered from him, police said.

During interrogation, Sandeep confessed to have recently snatched 16 gold chains from different areas in the national capital.

"With his arrest, 13 cases registered against him in different police stations have been solved," Assistant Sub-Inspector Sushil Kumar said.
