Panaji, May 9: Goa governor S C Jamir on Tuesday issued a notification to hold polls for the 40 assembly constituencies out of which one is reserved for the Scheduled Castes to constitute new Legislative Assembly of the state. "Accepting nominations has already begun and the last date for filing it is May 15," Goa's chief electoral officer Ramesh Negi told reporters.
 
He said the scrutiny of nominations would be done on May 16 and the last day for withdrawal of candidatures is May 18. In all 9.96 lac voters are likely to exercise their franchise for the June 2 polls.

Negi said electronic voting machines would be used for the elections, which will be held through 1066 polling stations. While nominations are yet to gain momentum, the election officials have given strict guidelines to the candidates to avoid huge rallies during nomination filing.
 
The Election Commission will depute 16 general and nine expenditure observers to oversee the electioneering, Negi said, adding the observers will arrive in the state on May 13 and will camp in respective constituencies.
