Myanmar designates constituencies for 2015 general elections


Yangon, July 3 (IANS): Myanmar's Union Election Commission (UEC) has designated constituencies for holding the 2015 general elections of four levels of parliament representatives tentatively scheduled for the end of October or the beginning of November.

According to a UEC announcement published on Friday, 330 constituencies are set for elections to the House of Representatives (lower house), 168 constituencies for the House of Nationalities (upper house), 644 constituencies for regional or state parliaments and 29 constituencies for regional or state parliaments for national races, Xinhua news agency reported.

The 2015 general elections will produce representatives to the next term of the parliament which will form a government for a new term starting 2016.

The current five-year term of the government which started from March 2011 will expire in March 2016.
