Mangalore, May 9: State chief election officer E Ramasheshan said that the election code of conduct will be strictly followed in the Ullal by-poll elections.
While speaking to the reporters here on Tuesday May 8 he said that code of conduct has already been enforced in Ullal in view of the interim polls for the assembly seat following the death of long-standing MLA U T Fareed. "Since the process of filing nominations has already begun, code of conduct has to be followed strictly by the concerned officials. No one can do any propaganda or election canvassing without prior permission," he added.
Earlier after arriving in the city he held a high-level meeting with the deputy commissioner M Maheshwr Rao, SP B Dayananda and other senior officials.
He also instructed that all kinds of canvassing must be wound up by 10 pm in urban limits and by 11 in rural areas. Use of any government vehicle for election campaign has been barred. At the same time the use of private vehicles has to be done only with the permission and a copy of the same has to be attached to the vehicles all the time during the campaign, he added.
There are about 1,61,070 voters of which 81,767 are women in the Ullal constituency. A total of 140 elections booths have been set up for the June 2 by-polls in the constituency.
