Mangalore, May 9: Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) district unit has announced that it would contest solely in the up coming Ullal by-poll.
Speaking at a press conference here, BSP state general secretary and district-in-charge Sridhar Kalveer said that the party would contest elections at its own without entering into any alliance with any of party. "We are going to contest in the elections at our own by all means. There is no doubt about it. A decision regarding the candidates would however be taken at the executive committee meeting to be held on Monday May 14," said Kalveer.
When asked about the aspirants for the elections, he refused to give any details and said that it will be announced formally once the executive committee decides on the aspirants. He also added that the main aim of the party would be to ensure that one of the leading parties tastes defeat in the elections. "We are surely going to snatch majority of votes from some of the leading parties which would result in the defeat of a major party," he opined.
