Mukherjee greets Algeria, Venezuela on their independence days


New Delhi, July 4 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday extended his greetings to Algerian and Venezuelan counterparts on the eve of their countries' independence days.

In his message to his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Mukherjee said: "On behalf of the government, the people of India and on my own behalf, it gives me great pleasure to extend to you and to the people of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria warm greetings and felicitations on the occasion of your Independence Day".

"India cherishes its warm and friendly relations with Algeria. I would like to reiterate India's commitment to enhancing our bilateral relations in the coming months to new areas of cooperation, as identified by our two sides," he said.

In his message to Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro Moros, Mukherjee said: "Relations between Venezuela and India have traditionally been close and friendly. I am confident that our economic cooperation - particularly in the field of energy - will intensify and expand further in the coming years. I am confident that we can, together, widen the scope of our bilateral co-operation to its full potential in the years to come."

Mukherjee also extended his greetings and felicitations to the government and people of African island nation of Cape Verde on the eve of their national day.
