BSF trooper killed in Pakistan firing on LoC in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 6 (IANS): A BSF trooper was killed overnight in Pakistan firing on the line of control (LoC) in North Kashmir's Kupwara district.

"A BSF trooper identified as Abhijeet Nanday of 119 battalion was killed in Pakistan firing on the LoC in Leepa Valley of Nowgam sector late last night, a senior police officer told IANS here on Monday.

"Indian troops retaliated effectively and firing exchanges in the area continued for several hours," he added.

Pakistan Rangers also violated ceasefire agreement on the international border in Arnia sector of Jammu district on Sunday targeting BSF border outposts with small arms and automatics.

It is important to mention that Pakistan violation of the bilateral ceasefire on the LoC and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir came on a day the Indian army returned an 11-year old boy to Pakistan army who inadvertently crossed the LoC in the Valley.

The boy was returned during a flag meeting called specially for this purpose after the Indian army gave new clothes and sweets to the strayed boy as a goodwill gesture.
