IS kills two youths for photographing Syrian oilfields

Beirut, July 6 (IANS/EFE): The Islamic State (IS) militant group killed two young men on Monday for taking photos of oilfields, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.

The executions took place in the northeastern Syrian province of al-Raqqa, the main stronghold of the jihadis, where IS militants dressed the victims in orange uniforms, tied them to a tree and shot them in the head, SOHR explained.

The victims were accused of copying secular leaflets, taking photos and recording videos in exchange for $400, the London-based NGO added.

Meanwhile, the IS detained one of its military leaders in Deir al-Zour in northeastern Syria on Sunday for allegedly smuggling cigarettes into the area, according to SOHR.

IS has taken control over large parts of Syrian territory since June 2014, when it proclaimed a caliphate in the land under its control in both Syria and neighbouring Iraq.
