Nike opens its largest India store

Bengaluru, July 6 (IANS): Betting high on brick and mortar retail format, Nike on Monday threw open its largest India store, a three-level, 7,355 square foot showroom on Brigade Road here.

"Brick and mortar stores have and will continue to have a role to play. This store is a testimony of that belief of Nike," said Nike India MD and GM Sanjay Gangopadhyay.

"Today's buzzwords are e-commerce, digital, dot com and etc.. but every format has a role to play," he added, without revealing any financials and metrics on the store and Nike's India operations.

The new store offers gait analysis to customers, and is also the centre for Nike Run Club.

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan was joined by cricketers R. Ashwin, Shubhlakshmi and Karun Nair, footballers Sunil Chhetri, Subrata Pal and Jyoti Ann Burrett, shooter Heena Sidhu and boxer Sarita Devi in enlivening the inauguration with panel discussion on sports in India.
