R.K. Dutta new special director, CBI


New Delhi, July 6 (IANS): IPS officer Rupak Kumar Dutta on Monday took over as special director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A 1981 batch officer of the Karnataka cadre, Dutta is a B.Tech from IIT Kanpur and MBA from Australia's Swinburne University, Australia.

Awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, he has earlier worked as additional director in CBI and also looked after the anti-corruption headquarters in the Patna, Hyderabad and Chennai zones, economic offences zone-I, bank securities and frauds zone and Delhi Zone.

In Karnataka, Dutta has held positions like superintendent of police, Karwar and Davanagere, DIG, Intelligence, Security, Vigilance and Northern Range and IG, northeastern.

He has also served as additional director general (law and order) and also as in the Karnataka Lokayukta in similar rank.

Before joining CBI, he was the state's director general, CID, special units and economic offences.
