Somnath Bharti's anticipatory bail plea dismissed

New Delhi, July 7 (IANS): A court on Tuesday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Delhi's former law minister Somnath Bharti, accused of harassing his wife, saying his application was premature as there was no FIR lodged against him.

Additional Sessions Judge Paramjit Singh granted Bharti liberty to file a fresh application if and when a first information report is lodged in the case.

The court observed that the matter was pending before the Crimes Against Women cell of Delhi Police. It said there was no apprehension of his arrest at this stage.

Bharti's wife Lipika Mitra filed a complaint of domestic violence against her husband last month. Bharti is now an Aam Aadmi Party legislator.
