Washington, Jul 8 (IANS): Two people were killed after an F-16 fighter jet of the US Air Force collided with a civilian aircraft in the state of South Carolina, a media report said.

The two people were aboard the civilian aircraft, a Cessna C-150 model, which was destroyed after the collision, Xinhua reported, citing the US National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Peter Knudson.

The accident took place on Tuesday morning at around 11 a.m., 18 kilometres north of Charleston in South Carolina.

US defence department officials have confirmed that the pilot of the F-16 fighter jet, which came from Shaw Air Force Base, 160 kilometres north-west of Charleston, ejected safely after the accident.
