BJP slams Akhilesh for rising crimes in UP

Lucknow, July 8 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav should resign on moral grounds for failing to protect women in the state, BJP leader Vijaya Rahatkar said on Wednesday.

Rahatkar, the president of the BJP's women's wing, said: "It is a sad story for women in the state, nobody seems to be safe here."

Referring to a recent incident where a woman was burnt alive inside a police station, the BJP leader said the Samajwadi Party-led government was a lame duck one which neither had the courage nor conviction to take on criminals.

She said rape, molestation and murder of girls and women in Uttar Pradesh were on the rise and the government was completely indifferent.
