Brazil wants BRICS to spread influence

Ufa (Russia), July 9 (IANS): The BRICS grouping (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) should spread its influence to other rapidly developing countries, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said on Thursday.

"We should spread our influence to other countries with rapidly developing economies and to developing countries," Rousseff said at an enlarged meeting of the BRICS leaders in the Russian Urals city of Ufa.

The Brazilian president said the UN Security Council should also be reformed and expanded, TASS news agency reported.

"Brazil believes that the UN Security Council should be reformed and expanded. Only in this case, it is possible to expect it to become more effective," she said.

Brazil intended to take part in a conference on climate change and consider any decisions that would be proposed, the Brazilian president said.

"We intend to take an active part in the upcoming conference on global climate change. And we’re ready to examine any alternative decisions that will be offered," she said.
