Udupi, May 14: Despite the state government granting permission to start consumer clubs in high schools, detailed programmes for them are yet to be finalized. In this regard the department of consumer affairs and PDS has now planned to invite suggestions from consumer activists and organizations.
Damodar Aithal, a senior consumer activist and convener of Balakedarara Vedike has proposed a detailed syllabus to be followed by consumer clubs.
Aithal said that consumer clubs are capable of holding face-to-face programme with ward representatives, gram panchayat presidents and secretaries, officers of department of weights and measurements, health officers and police officers.
He also suggested that student members of consumer clubs could also take up information campaigns on public distribution system, power saving measures, right to information act etc. Apart from this, they can also conduct awareness camps by way of bicycle jatha, walking etc and slogan and poster writing competitions, street plays on consumer related issues.
He added that he wants the students to share their knowledge on consumer movement in the community and take the feed back.
