Army chief pays tribute to soldier killed in J and K


New Delhi, July 10 (IANS): Army Chief General Dalbir Singh on Friday paid homage to the soldier who died after suffering bullet injuries during a confrontation with terrorists in Kashmir's Shopian.

Gunner Anish T suffered a bullet wound during a gun battle with terrorists in Shopian on July 8. He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

The body was brought to Delhi on Friday morning, where General Singh paid homage to the soldier by laying a wreath.

The body was then taken to his home town in Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu for the last rites.

Anish T, who belonged to 62 Rashtriya Rifle, was part of the team which had cordoned off a village in Imam Sahib following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
