Farmers union calls off DND flyover stir

Noida, July 10 (IANS): Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) activists, demanding a toll-free passage on the DND flyover, withdrew their dharna on Friday evening after they were assured of a meeting with the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary on July 15 on the issue.

They began a sit-in at the DND toll gate on Thursday morning, enabling free movement of vehicles on the flyover.

"We withdrew the dharna at 5:30 p.m. today (Friday) after we were assured of a meeting with the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow on July 15. For the first time, Noida Toll Bridge Company Ltd. (NTBCL) owner will be present at the meeting," BKU leader Rakesh Tikait told IANS.

Tikait earlier described the toll plaza as "illegal" and demanded that it should be removed.
