Top Afghan IS leader killed in US drone strike

Kabul, July 11 (IANS): Former Taliban militant and then leader of Islamic State (IS) in Pakistan and Afghanistan, Hafiz Saeed Khan, has been killed in a US drone strike, the Afghan intelligence agency said on Saturday.

Saeed was among the 30 militants killed when the drone targeted their compound in Afghanistan's Nangarhar Province, Khaama Press reported.

This was the second US drone strike in the past three days to have targeted leaders of the terrorist group in Afghanistan.

Earlier this week, Shahidullah Shahid, the former spokesman of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who defected to the IS, was also killed in a US drone strike in the same province, which lies on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
