16 killed in Chad suicide bomb attack

N'Djamena, July 11 (IANS): A suicide bomb attack on Saturday killed 16 people and injured 80 here, police said.

A man dressed as a woman wearing a burqa detonated the explosives when the police tried to arrest him at the southern entrance of the Central Market in N'Djamena, police spokesperson Paul Manga said, Xinhua reported.

The spokesperson added most of those killed were women.

"This attack once again proved that the ban on wearing burqa is a beneficial practice for everyone and should be respected ever," said Manga, who called on the public to cooperate with security forces.

On June 15, two suicide bomb attacks took place in N'Djamena, leaving 38 people dead and over 100 injured. The Chadian government blamed Boko Haram for these attacks.

Chad sent troops to neighbouring Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger to work with these countries to fight against Boko Haram.
