Mukherjee happy over IISc's 5th rank among BRICS varsities

New Delhi, July 11 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday expressed happiness over the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru securing the fifth position in the QS BRICS Universities Ranking 2015.

An official statement said Mukherjee also congratulated 31 Indian institutions which now figure in the top 200 of the rankings.

Mohandas Pai, chairman of the Indian Centre for Academic Rankings and Excellence (ICARE), informed Mukherjee about the feat.

The ICARE has been helping Indian institutions of higher learning to better understand global ranking parameters and encouraging their pro-active participation in the global ranking process.

Pai informed the president that IISc not only ranks No.5 across universities in all BRICS nations but was also ranked No.1 among BRICS countries over research papers per faculty.

He said there were 20 Indian institutions in the top 200 in 2014.
