IAF chief visits South Africa


New Delhi, July 12 (IANS): The Indian Air Force (IAF) chief, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, has proceeded on a four-day visit to South Africa, an official statement said on Sunday.

His visit follows an invitation from Lt. Gen. F.Z. Msimang, the chief of the South African Air Force.

Raha is scheduled to hold talks with senior military leaders in South Africa and discuss a range of bilateral issues on enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries.

The itinerary also includes a visit to Armscor, the Armament Corp of South Africa, and tour of airbases and the South African Flight Test facilities at Overberg.

In recent years, there have been close and frequent contacts at political and military levels between the two countries which are members of the tri-lateral initiative IBSA (India, Brazil and South Africa).
