Two killed in Jammu road accident


Jammu, July 13 (IANS): Two people were killed when a van plunged into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's hilly Doda district on Monday.

"The driver lost control over the van near Malikpora Bridge in Bhatyas area of Gandoh (Doda) in the Jammu region today... the vehicle rolled down a 100-feet-deep gorge," a senior police official said.

"Two occupants of the vehicle died on the spot in the accident. One of them was a local while the other was from Bihar," the official added.

The hilly Doda and Kishtwar districts in Jammu region are infamous for frequent road accidents which occur due to extremely bad road conditions, overloading and speeding by drivers of commercial vehicles.
