Video of boy's brutal killing triggers protests in Bangladesh

Dhaka, July 13, (PTI) : A video of a 13-year-old boy in Bangladesh, who was brutally tortured to death by a group of men for allegedly stealing a rickshaw, has triggered widespread protests including on social media, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt.

The teenage vegetable vendor, Samiul Alam Rajan, was tied to a pole and beaten up for nearly 30 minutes until he died due to the torture while one of the attackers filmed the gruesome incident and uploaded it on his Facebook page.

Rajan, son of a driver, screamed for help, cried for water and begged for his life while the killers laughed and jeered at him in the 28-minute video of the July 8 incident in Kumargaon of northeastern Sylhet Sadar Upazila following allegations that the teenager had stolen a rickshaw van.

Hundreds of people, including women and children, took to the streets in Sylhet carrying posters of Rajan and demanding exemplary punishment for the killers.

Two of the prime suspects, one of whom 22-year-old Muhith Alam was chased and caught by the locals, have been taken into custody. A manhunt is underway to nab the remaining two.

The people in the neighbourhood had caught Alam as the attackers tried to dump Rajan's body secretly in a secluded place and handed him over to police while the rest fled.

"We brought him to our custody for interrogation in line with the court order," said Akhtar Hossain, officer in charge of the local police station.

Rajan's family came to know of the incident when they went to police station to file a missing report of their son.

At least Bangladeshis have big heart to protest against public killing of men or boys , and this including women protesters too. Recently lots of men in india are publicly lynched when certain women made false harassment complaints. Media , courts and even people where also not bothered. This incidents were brutal than nirbaya but no reactions since victim is a man. The indians society is highly misandry and can be easily manipulated by funded media . "nirbaya' is been too much exaggerated with the selfish motives With the advent of social media platforms , at least now men rights groups are getting some momentum. Due to proper awareness , 'marital rape' concept was rejected by courts and irbm bill is been removed by govt. Time has come to amend all laws , and make it men friendly.

Very, very tragic and extremely heart breaking. Watching the graphic contents I'm going to have difficulty in sleeping tonight, not sure if his killers slept.

Here we see the dark side of man.
This kind of lawlessness is rampant in many parts of Asia and Africa and the authorities MUST ensure that such incidence are never, ever repeated again.

@Aithappa moolya,Mangalore,Dubai, dear Mr.moolya, you say These People are worst creatures in world.Do you think you are better or me?Bangladesh is the most poor Country than ours.People live there in a utter powerty than ours.Even in our Country also there are People just like there ,not financial but in character.May be their powerty makes them to be so.or they dont know to be otherway.but the way they treated a Boy of just 13years is not to be tolerated and very mean.Thrashing a bit might be first tolerated but to death ?dont they have children?Video they have taken as if it is a animal in Circus. No they are not human.uneducated.my heartfelt sympathy to his Family.May his soul rest in peace.A bit of Video was too much for me.
