Puttur, May 16: An early morning collision between a private bus and lorry at Lavatadka near Periyashanti of Nelyadi here resulted in killing one and injuring 8 on Wednesday May 16. Out of the 8 injured, 3 are said to be in a critical condition and are being treated in a private hospital in Mangalore
The deceased has been identified as Karunakar Shetty (40), driver of Durgamba bus plying between Bangalore and Mangalore. Lorry driver Ravi, Manu and Rangaswami have been injured seriously in the accident while 5 passengers from the bus too have sustained minor injuries.
The accident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday when the Durgamba bus coming to Mangalore from Bangalore collided with a manganese ore lorry which was on its way to Bangalore after unloading manganese ore at Mangalore. The impact of the accident was so much that the front portions of bus as well as the lorry have completely been damaged.
The accident resulted in traffic jam on the highway for almost an hour. But the Nelyadi police led by SI Babu managed to clear the road soon and resume movement of vehicles.
