New Delhi, July 13 (IANS): A 19-year-old Manipuri youth has been arrested in connection with the burglary at the Holy Child Auxilium School two months ago, police said on Monday.
Rahul Moirangthem, who resides in Nanak Pura in south Delhi, was arrested on Sunday by Delhi Police's special staff.
The burglary took place in the intervening night of May 12-13 at the Holy Child Auxilium School in south Delhi's Vasant Vihar. Cash amounting to Rs.12,500 and a few cell phones were stolen from the rooms of the principal and the accountant.
Scrutiny of the CCTV footage suggested that the accused and his two friends scaled over the school wall at midnight.
Police said the accused -- who had covered their faces -- damaged the cameras installed in the premises before committing the burglary.
"There was no trace of vandalism at the scene of crime. The sacred symbols and pictures were intact and untouched," Deputy Commissioner of Police Prem Nath said.
The official said a team of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) took 26 chance prints from the room from where the property was stolen.
In the meantime, the official said, a burglary with similar modus operandi was reported from Mount Carmel School in South Campus area on May 29 in which three people, including Rahul, were apprehended.
"The finger prints of the accused were sent to CFSL for comparison with the chance prints picked from the Holy Child Auxilium School," the official said.
"On June 30, the CFSL reported that the chance prints matched those of the thumb impression of Rahul Moirangthem," he added.
The police team started searching for Rahul, who was granted bail in the Mount Carmel case and had gone to Manipur. He was called for interrogation on July 11 and arrested the next day.
Rahul disclosed that he often visited the Vasant Vihar market with his friends.
"The Holy Child School was located on the route he took. After consuming liquor, he and two friends scaled over the wall and committed the crime," said the official.
Rahul disclosed that his friends also belong to Manipur and were staying at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Nanak Pura.
