Can't blame cab firms for drivers' misdeeds: Delhi HC

New Delhi, July 15 (IANS): The Delhi High Court on Wednesday said mobile and web-based taxi service providers cannot be blamed for "illegal acts" by drivers.

Justice Manmohan said if misdeeds are done by drivers, "then you can't put the burden on the app-based taxi service provider".

The court's remarks came while hearing a plea by OLA, an app-based taxi service provider, which said since cabs under it have all-India permits, they do not need to get additional permission to ply in Delhi.

The court also suggested to the Delhi government to do away with the ban on such service providers as their technology has been working the world over, was well-recognised and was a "boon for consumers".
