Bangalore, May 19: A high alert has been declared in the city and in other parts of the state after blasts in Charminar in Hyderabad on Friday May 18 afternoon.
Bangalore City Police Commissioner N Achuta Rao told this website's newspaper that extra security has been provided across the city, especially in sensitive areas. ‘‘The entire police force is on extra alert to avert any untoward incidents. We have provided additional security at the airport and the city railway stations. Police patrolling is on in sensitive areas,’’ he said.
Additional Commissioner of Police Bipin Gopalakrishna said that security and patrolling has been beefed up in the West, East and South zones of Bangalore.
State Director General and Inspector General of Police K R Srinivasan told this paper that patrolling had been intensified in sensitive areas, including religious places and the forces have been put on high alert.
‘‘We have pressed into service reserve police force to help local police in providing security in sensitive areas and they have been deployed at places of worship, railway and bus stations and other sensitive areas. No untoward incidents have been reported from any part of the State,’’ he said.
ADGP Shankar Bidri said that steps had been initiated to safeguard communal harmony and all district police heads have been asked to take precautionary measures. Security has been beefed up in border areas including Bidar, Gulbarga, Koppal and Raichur.
