Elderly couple found dead in Kolkata


Kolkata, July 16 (IANS): An elderly couple were found dead in their residence in Kolkata on Thursday, and police suspect they were murdered.

"The woman had her throat slit and the man's head was smashed. We are investigating the case and suspect murder," Deputy Commissioner (North) of Kolkata police Suvankar Sinha Sarkar told IANS.

Police reached the spot in Paikpara in northern Kolkata in the afternoon after getting calls from the couple's neighbours.

Both victims were retired teachers and their daughter lives away from the city.

"When the newspaper delivery man rang their doorbell, it went unanswered. After hearing about it, we called on the man's mobile number which also went unanswered. After that, we informed police," a neighbour said.

Police entered the flat by breaking the locks of the collapsible gate and found the bodies.

Sleuths from the detective department of city police also rushed to the crime scene.
