Tripura to form state skill development mission

Agartala, July 21 (IANS): The Left Front-led Tripura government on Tuesday decided to set up a state skill development mission to enable youths to get employment opportunities.

The move came a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Skill Development Mission.

"The Tripura Skill Development Mission would be headed by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar," Tripura's Information Minister Bhanulal Saha told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

"A separate directorate would be constituted to run various skill development activities in the state," he added.

"An expert group would be constituted to assess and conduct the study about the requirement of funds, necessary infrastructure, number of people likely to be trained and other related matters," Saha said.

"Under the proposed Tripura Skill Development Mission, youths would be trained as per their capabilities, merit and make them employable," he said, however adding "the state government would not give jobs to all job seekers, but we can make them skilled people".

Replying to a query, the minister said the Tripura government was yet to confirm how much financial and other assistance was likely to be available from the newly constituted Ministry of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship.

On July 15, Prime Minister Modi launched the National Skill Development Mission and released the National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, 2015.
