Mangalore, May 26: Samajwadi Party which has not fielded any candidate in the present by-election at Ullal has finally decided to support CPM candidate J Balakrishna Shetty.
This was announced by SP district general secretary S P Chengappa at a press conference held here on Friday May 25.
He further said that SP did not want that the communal forces should reign supreme in these elections. "We do not want communal forces to take control of this district. As the same time, we did not want the division of secular votes. So we did not field our own candidate. It is with this same intention that we have decided to support CPM," he said.
He also announced that party's state president and former chief minister S Bangarappa would come to Ullal on Saturday May 26 to campaign for J Balakrishna Shetty. He will address a public gathering at Jappinamogaru at 6 pm on Saturday.
He further opined that though it is largely portrayed that the contest is between Congress and BJP, it is not true. "The actual contest is not between two parties but between 3 parties, that is, Congress, BJP and CPM," he added.
Party leaders M Mohan, Abubakkar Lucky Star, Moidin Monu, Mohini Suvarna and Rajesh were also present at the press conference.
