Obama reaches Ethiopia for official visit


Addis Ababa, Jul 27 (IANS): US President Barack Obama arrived on Sunday in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa for an official visit to the east African country.

Prime Minister Hailemaraim Desalegn and other senior government officials received Obama at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, Xinhua reported.

Obama will visit the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa and hold a meeting with AU Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

The US president would also deliver a speech at the Nelson Mandela Hall at the AU Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, the AU Commission's deputy chairperson Erastus Mwencha told reporters.

On Sunday afternoon, Obama left Kenya after a three-day visit, his first as president to the country of his father's birth.

During his visit, the US president opened the 6th Global Entrepreneurship Summit, and held bilateral talks with Kenyan officials.

In his speech on Sunday to Kenyans, Obama praised the country for its regional leadership and said it was headed for a bigger global role.
