Mangalore, May 28: Station-level monthly dalit grievances hearing meets should be conducted compulsorily, said district superintendent of police B Dayanand here on Sunday May 27 at the SC/ST grievances hearing meeting conducted by district police.

He asked the in-charge officials of the stations to hold the grievances hearing meetings on the third Sunday of every month and instructed the additional superintendent of police to pay surprise visits to the stations to ensure that the meetings are conducted as per the order.

Some of those who were present complained that the meetings are not being held in places like Uppinangady and to add to the dalits’ misery, the police officials even treat them badly, they added.

Several aided private institutions in the district have been charging high fees for PUC admissions, causing anxiety among students and parents of all sections especially the backward communities, said dalit leader Lolaksha.

Among those present were deputy SP D Dharmaiah and Puttur ASP Harsha.
