India, China face exodus of millionaires: report

By Arun Kumar
Washington, July 28 (IANS): India and China are facing an exodus of their wealthiest citizens with tens of thousands of "high-net-worth individuals" (HNWIs) having left to seek greener pastures, according to a new report.

As many as 61,000 Indian millionaires left the country and settled overseas in the last 14 years, second only to China which saw an exodus of 91,000, according to a report by consultancies New World Wealth and LIO Global.

France, Italy, Russia, Indonesia, South Africa and Egypt round out the top eight, according to the study cited by Time magazine.

The study, released this month, looked at immigration data from 2000 and 2014 indicating applications for a second citizenship or change of domicile (permanent residence).

Britain -- its capital city London, in particular -- appears to be the most popular destination for the world's rich to settle down in, followed by the US, Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong.

The report said Indians tend to move to countries like Australia and the United Arab Emirates, while Singapore and Hong Kong are popular destinations for China's wealthy.

Despite the large-scale departure of millionaires, India still has the tenth largest number of millionaires at 226 800, while China stands fifth with 608,500. The US tops the list with 4,105,000 millionaires.

Those who leave generally cite reasons like "turmoil in home country, security concerns and optimizing education of children," the report said.

Highlights:

Britain was the top beneficiary of HNWIs from abroad. Most of these HNWIs came from Europe, Russia, China and India.

Inflows into the US predominantly came from China. Notable numbers also came from Britain, India and Russia.

Singapore in second place benefited from a strong migration of HNWIs from China, India and Indonesia.

Australia was boosted by strong inflows from the Asia Pacific region (India, China, Indonesia), as well as Britain and South Africa.

The UAE (mainly Dubai) saw strong inflows from North Africa, India and Middle Eastern countries.

Indian HNWIs tended to move to the UAE, Britain, the US and Australia.

I’m just wondering what doomsday prophets like Sunil etc have to say about this. As per them, UK, USA and rest of the west is on the verge of bankruptcy and China and India are next superpowers. But look at the facts, exodus of moneybags from both these ‘superpowers in the making’ continues westwards and not the other way around. If these millionaires were dumber than our prophets, they wouldn’t be millionaires in the first place which confirms that our prophets are just thinking wishfully and continue to buy the dreams sold by their leaders.

Please take report of migration in last one year...
People always want peace and security to their life. Our government is not able to give this to its citizens.
And i dont think its mistake of the govt. Its mistake of the people, they just blindly believe and jump to fight each other listening to their leaders.
Peoples should have little brains to think whats good and bad at-least this knowledge...

Please give me information about any one greener pasture in the world that would naturalize anyone immigration status in ONE YEAR. Even I may want to try or atleast suggest to some of my friends who are slogging for the same to go to Canada Australia. In one year you may only Illegally migrate.

    It is absolutely true.

Many, many Indians migrate to US, UK and Canada and settle there permanently.

Life in these developed countries is more easier, peaceful and safe.

Given an opportunity, at least 50% of the India's educated population would prefer to work and live in the western countries.

I presume, what you want to ask here is, why these two are not migrating. They are not Millionaires, but Billionaires. A Billionaire is like a Crown Prince in his own country. Just an example of Mukesh: He has a residence called Antilia, 600 staff to maintain that, presently Antilia is worth a Billion, is the costliest residential property in the world, only next to Buckingham Palace. Can he get that comfort any where in the world, other than here ? His control over the Govt is another matter.

Some of those millionaires who r commenting in DW may be deported by this Countries. That can be ascertained only if they comment with their real names & not commenting by fake names.

Hello, brother Jacob, tomorrow you are going to receive an excellent job offer in the United States of America and eventually a green card to live there with your family for ever. Tell me honestly, would you accept this golden opportunity or decline it?

Thanks for your good wishes. I may not get the job offer from USA now as I am a senior citizen. However I have enjoyed working & living in Bahrain & Abu Dhabi for 35 years. At the moment our migration papers r on Q on Parents category for Australian citizenship as both of my sons r citizens of that great Country. Adil, thanks once again for your positive comment. @SB Mangalore,I dont understand why you all are fixed on govt.for everything.when one is efficient, clever, and has the needed studies ,or title, has goneout even during previous govt, and still People go and settle overseas.Govt.has nothing to do here.A old saying is there one who doesnt know dancing will say hall is not straight.Overseas accepts only People with good skills, not someone come and want to live on govt.cost.Due to terrorism nowadays many states hesitate to give entry to People from certain countrys.whose fault when so is?when you have a good amount of Money to invest in that Country ,of course every Country welcomes you.

Country was peaceful untill chaddis on road. Now situation like, security contract must be given to BD goondas otherwise they will destroy business by monkey trouble. None interested to invest thier own town because of monkey troubles.
Example, Mangalore was famous for Education, Hotel, Hospitals and Banking. Now a days parents scare to send their kids to Mangalore for education. All credits goes to Chaddis
