Mangalore, May 28: 'Eik Saanz Kaveal' organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at Sandesha on Sunday May 27 evening proved to be memorable for many reasons.

Two anthologies, one by well-known Konkani poet, Daiji Dubai forum founder member Melvyn Rodrigues and the other by Konkani-Kannada writer and member of Daiji Dubai Arthur Pereira Omzoor were released on the occasion.  While Melvyn's anthology is a compilation of 107 seven poems that have been written by various poets in the last one century, Arthur's anthology 'Tim Dukham Uloitana' establishes him as one more promising and talented young poets in Konkani.

Speaking on the occasion Melvyn Rodrigues said that a poem penned by Manvel Rodrigues in Sawantwadi in 1896 is the first poem.  He also presented the history of Konkani poetry in the last one century and expressed hope that Konkani poetry has a good future.  However, he added that Konkani poetry and poets need to take a leaf out from other languages to improve the quality and standards of Konkani poetry.

'Visavea Xeddeacheo Kavita', a collection of 107 poems of 20th century compiled by Melvyn Rodrigues was released by Prof Valerian Rodrigues, professor of political science at Jawaharlal Nehru University. "Tim Dukham Uloitana' was released by renowned Kannada writer Na D'Souza while another Konkani poet Andrew L D'Cunha introduced the poet and the book to the gathering.

Later Kavita Sobhann (poetry session) was held which was moderated by Melvyn Rodrigues.  Konkani poets of repute Titus Noronha, Gladys Rego, Tharanath Nayak, Wilson Kateel, H M Pernal, Kavyadas, Andrew L D'Cunha, Vitti Bangalore, Vitori Karkala, Lloyd Rego, Arthur Pereira and Melvyn Rodrigues read out their poems.
