InFocus ties up with Foxconn, eyes $1 bn by 2016


New Delhi, July 28 (IANS): US technology firm InFocus' India arm on Tuesday revealed that it was tying up with Foxconn to produce phones and TVs in India and was also looking to become a $1 billion company by 2016.

"We are tying up with Taiwan-based manufactuer Foxconn to produce phones and TVs for the Indian market. All our phones will come from Foxconn's Andhra plant and our TVs from its Chennai plant," said InFocus' India chief Sachin Thapar.

Also optimistic about the company's growth, he said: "India was a good market to enter as people here are always ready to test new brands." InFocus has sold nearly 250,000 phones till date and aims to sell around one million handsets by the end of the year.

Explaining India's importance, Thapar said: "India is a very important market and the only market that the company has chosen outside US. We want to take 'the consumer is king' attitude to become the best tech brand that offers value products at affordable prices."

The US-based company has also plans to invest around $30 million for marketing activities over period of next 6-8 months.

Infocus is also expanding its after sales service centres from 101 to 150 by the end of this year. "Besides physical centres, we have tied up with Snapdeal and Amazon to help us pick product in case there is any defect," Thapar said.

Asked about Infocus' entry into the television sector, Thapar said: "Keeping in mind that display is one of our core competencies, entering into the TV space should be normal and comfortable for us."

Also, the company unveiled a plethora of other products which includes the M550-3D smartphone on which 3D content can be experienced directly. Priced at Rs.15,999, the device will come with a camera that can be used for clicking 3D pictures.

The most expensive phone unveiled by the company was M 812 with 5.5 inch screen size for Rs. 19,990. Other devices that were launched start at Rs.5,999.
