Mangalore, May 29: State president of women Congress Rani Sathish has alleged that the present coalition government of the state has neglected the interests of the women.
Speaking at a press conference here on Monday May 29 she said that right from the formation, the government has been following anti-women policy. “They have failed to induct even single women in the cabinet. Despite expansion of the cabinet twice, there has been no representation for women in the cabinet yet,” she said.
She lambasted the government and said that the ministers in the cabinet lack experience. “This is so much evident in the way the issue of banning of night shift for women was handled. At first, they wanted to ban it totally. But when the move was opposed from all quarters, they reversed and said that women can work in the night too. This is clearly a double standard and shows that ministers lack experience and thereby fail to take decision judiciously,” she opined.
She urged the government to do something concrete towards the welfare of the women rather than boasting of having various schemes for the womenfolk.
Dwelling on the up-coming by-poll at Ullal, she said women voters who exceed even men in the constituency are frustrated with the government as they feel that they have been left out of the mainstream. “The women working in the unorganized sector are hit hard. Their appeals and memorandums have been thrown to the dust bin and no steps are taken for their welfare,” she added.
District chief of women Congress Mamata Gatti, former minister Suma Vasanth were also present at the press conference.
