Mangalore, May 29: A total of Rs 30 crore has been sanctioned for the repair of Shiradi Ghat, said K H Muniyappa, union minister of state for shipping, road transport and highways.
He was speaking at a press conference here in the city on Tuesday May 29.
Two bids have been taken by the state PWD for the proposal to provide rigid pavement and revised estimate has been sanctioned, he informed.
“I have asked the National Highway chief engineer to conduct the survey of converting road into four-lanes between Sakaleshpur and B C Road. Another proposal is ready with the government for laying cement road between Sakleshpur and Shiradi Ghat. We will look into the feasibility of this proposal,” he said.
Construction of four-lanes between B C Road and Suratkal has been delayed owing to the problems of utility shifting. However, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has to complete it before December 2008, said he.
A report has been asked and told to submit within a month with the chief engineer about the landslide at Kettikal near Vamanjur on National Highway 13. At the same time, Rs 11 crore has been sanctioned for the maintenance of highway between Suratkal and Kundapur and work is under progress, Muniyappa added.
