Kundapur, May 31: A conference of farm workers’ of Kundapur taluk was inaugurated here recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Nityananda Swami said that the unorganized sector of farm labourers should assert their rights for BPL cards, old age pension and such other privileges as have been enjoyed by their counterparts in Kerala. He also asked them to fight for the enactment of Kerala type of bill for the protection of their interest.
Around two hundred farm labourers attended the conference. Wishing them a bright future Mahabala Voderhobli of Beedi Workers’ Union, congratulated the farmers for forming the association.
Sharadamma, vice president, Employees’ Association, Mid-day meals, Suresh Kallagar, joint secretary, DYFI and Chandra Shekara, secretary, building workers, Kundapur Taluk, spoke on the occasion.
U Dasa Bhandary was elected as president, Rohini, Malathi, Sharada and Baby as vice presidents, Venkatesh Nayak of Koni as secretary, and Saraswathi of Byndoor, Saku, Geetha of Vandse were selected as joint secretaries of the association.
Dasa presided and joint secretary Saraswathi gave the vote of thanks. Many resolutions were passed in the interest of the farm workers.
