President launches self-help group outlet in estate


New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS): A marketing outlet for self-help groups of Rashtrapati Bhavan was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee here on Tuesday.

The renovated shop 'Shakti Haat' has been shifted inside a shopping complex in the President's Estate and offers products like homemade masalas, organic compost and handmade envelopes made by the wives of employees of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"Apart from this, the courtyard of the outlet will be used as a training centre for sewing and girls who get trained here would offer their tailoring services to the residents of the estate," said a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Besides, there will be a dedicated area for residents of the estate to sell their produce such as fresh vegetables and fruits, pickles, artefacts, garments etc.

The shopping complex inside the estate was renovated in 2014 and has eight shops including a Safal outlet and a Kendriya Bhandar.
