Eight Indian grapplers for junior Worlds


New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS): The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Thursday announced an eight-member men's team (Greco Roman Style) which will participate in the Junior World Championship to be held at Recife, Brazil, from August 10 to 15.

The team was selected during the trials conducted by the WFI selection committee at the SAI Training Centre in Sonepat.

"This is one of the best teams selected for the Junior World Championships which has given outstanding results in the recent past," WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said.

"Looking at the outstanding performance of our Greco Roman team in the Junior Asian Championship held in Myanmar last month, it makes me feel confident that our wrestlers will definitely make our country proud by winning more and more medals in this mega event."

The team will depart for Brazil on Sunday.

The team: Inakhumba (50 kg), Manish (55 kg), Ravinder (60 kg), Ashok (66 kg), Manjeet (74 kg), Rahul (84 kg), Ravi (84 kg) and Mehar Singh (120 kg).

Support staff: Ravinder Mishra (coach), Balwant Singh (coach), Sonu (coach), Rajender Prasad (referee) and Vishal (masseur).
