Udupi, Jun 7: Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) took to streets here on Wednesday June 6 to urging the administration to resolve discrepancies in the distribution of ration cards to families below poverty line.
The 29-hour dharna was staged in front of the taluk office.
They also demanded distribution of 25 kg each of rice and wheat to families with more than two persons and urged the government to provide other essential commodities like pulses, oil, tea etc to all.
The number of fair price depots should also be increased to cater to the increasing demand and the government should ensure that BPL families are not cheated by the depots, the protestors said.
